The other half that passed through the floodgates was the most liquid part of the tailings. It impacted about 550 km until reaching the sea, mixing with the Doce river water. This portion of tailings formed a colloid, that is, an opaque liquid. The milk, for example, is a colloid, composed of more than 90% water and about 3% protein, which gives it a white color.
