Paracatu de Baixo


The works for the resettlement of Paracatu de Baixo, district of Mariana (MG), continue with the construction of houses and more than 90% of the infrastructure completed. Until the district is built and the housing is completed, the provision of temporary housing to families who have this right is guaranteed.
The process involved the active participation of around 78 families, from choosing the land to monitoring the construction of the new district. Community involvement brought to the proposal characteristics in line with collective habits. The construction of the treated water pipeline and works on the storm drain and sewage network have already been carried out. The school works are in progress and the paving of the main access road has been completed. Nine permits were issued for the use of collective goods, such as kindergarten and elementary schools, sports courts, advanced health posts, service centers, fields, chapels, Casa São Vicente and community hall. For the houses, 50 permits were issued and the basic projects are being filed.

THE DISTRICT

Located 35 kilometers from Mariana (MG), Paracatu de Baixo is a sub-district of the city of Monsenhor Horta (MG) and is crossed by the Gualaxo do Norte River. In the region there are properties with plantations and a predominance of subsistence activities. One of the most traditional festivities celebrated by the community is the Folia de Reis festival, held between Christmas and Three Kings Day. The Folia de Reis do Menino Jesus, another highly visible religious festival in the region, is celebrated in September.

In September 2016, the community of Paracatu de Baixo chose the land for the new district. The area has 84.8 hectaresand is also located in Monsenhor Horta. With the participation of the families, the characteristics of the infrastructure, such as schools, churches, squares, health centers, will be preserved.
