Developed by over 80 experts, the Tailings Management Plan seeks solutions for the material that has spread over a length of 670 km along the Doce river basin. The plan divides the region impacted by the Fundao dam collapse into 17 stretches and defines, stretch per stretch, the destination of the accumulated tailings. The final decision is always based on the solution that causes the least impact to the environment and communities.
At the Candonga Plant, tailings are being dredged and removed from the first 400 meters from the barrier. These initiatives are containing about 8 million cubic meters of tailings deposited on the plains and banks.
