R$75.3 million were allocated to proceed with the second stage of the works and acquisition of equipment
In July, the Renova Foundation concluded the last stage of the transfer of compensatory resources to the government of Minas, provided for in the Integrated Agenda agreement. Approximately R$75.3 million were allocated to the construction and acquisition of equipment for the Regional Hospital of Governador Valadares, located in the East of Minas Gerais Health Macro region, which covers 86 municipalities and an estimated population of 1.5 million inhabitants. The hospital will have 265 beds, 176 in the infirmary, 39 in the emergency room and 50 in the ICU, in addition to nine operating rooms.
The Integrated Agenda is an action carried out in partnership between the Renova Foundation, the governments of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo, with the participation of the Forum of Mayors of Rio Doce. The initiative allocated, in total, R$ 828.5 million for investments in education, infrastructure and health for 38 municipalities impacted by the Fundao dam (MG). Deposits started in August 2020, with the first installment in the order of R$ 455.7 million. In January 2021, another R$ 248.5 million was deposited. The third installment of R$124.3 million included the amount destined for the hospital.
According to the judicial agreement ratified by the 12th Federal Court, the Renova Foundation is responsible for making the judicial deposits of the agreed amounts, so that the actions foreseen are carried out by the state and municipal governments. The responsibility for conducting the works lies with public entities.
Fronts
One of the main objectives of the Integrated Agenda is to induce the diversification of the local economy. Therefore, one of the fronts included the allocation of R$ 12.2 million to the Minas Gerais municipality of Rio Doce with the objective of implementing the Industrial District, with an estimated area of 68 thousand square meters and the potential to benefit at least another five surrounding municipalities.
In the area of education, the application of resources intends to contribute to the quality of life of the affected population, especially children and young people. Investments of R$238.9 million are planned, R$44.3 million for public education in Minas Gerais and R$34.6 million in Espirito Santo. Resources were distributed according to the population of each city. For investments in public education in Minas Gerais municipalities, R$137 million were earmarked, and four municipalities in Espirito Santo received R$23 million.
As for infrastructure, investments are planned in the works of 153 km of highways in Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo. R$ 140 million will be transferred to the government of Minas Gerais of which R$ 12 million will be used to renovate the MG-900 section to access the Doce River State Park (Bispo) and R$ 128 million to renovate the section of MG-760, between BR-262 and Sao Jose do Goiabal – Cava Grande, which connects the Doce River Valley to the Zona da Mata region in Minas Gerais.
For Espirito Santo, BRL 365 million will be allocated for the execution of three road sections at the mouth of the Doce river: ES-010, between Vila do Riacho and Regencia, ES-440, between BR-101 and Regencia, and ES-248, between ES-358 and Povoaçao.
