José Almir Jacomelli of the institution’s environment team talked to netizens on the accomplished work
This afternoon, March 30, the Renova Foundation organized the first live chat session, transmitted by the institution’s YouTube channel. During the session, one of the experts of the Renova environmental projects, Almir José Jacomelli, presented an overview on the progress of the Springs Recovery Program and clarified doubts of netizens.
The program builds on a partnership between the Renova Foundation and the Earth Institute and has already protected 511 springs in the Doce River Basin. During the conversation, Almir emphasized the importance of the participation of the rural farmers to achieve this result. In total, 215 owners have joined the proposal and have contributed to the fencing of the springs.
According to Almir Jacomelli, the next step after the fencing is to prepare the soil and revegetate the surroundings of the springs. Therefore, it is necessary to remove invasive plants, collect native seeds from the region, cultivate seedlings and plant them. The goal is to protect 5000 springs in 10 years.
The chat session about the protection of springs is the first of a series of conversations on different topics about the work managed by the Renova Foundation. Every last Thursday of the month a professional of the institution or a market specialist will share their experiences and clarify doubts in a live broadcast.
