The idea behind the space is the integration of communities, exchange of experiences and social interaction

In order to promote greater integration and interaction between members of the Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu de Baixo communities in Minas Gerais, in early October, the Renova Foundation presented the keys of the community garden to ten families who showed interest in participating in this action. The vegetable garden also aims to increase people’s contact with the land and promote planting for household consumption.

A consultant was hired by Renova to listen to a group of elderly people from these communities. This assessment showed the desire to be in contact again with the land, to plant and cultivate. Therefore, the team that assists families and that is involved in the resettlement has developed the community garden project, with support from the Agroforestry Operations team.

The vegetable garden was set up in Mariana on a property of choice of the participants. The idea behind the space is to stimulate integration of communities, exchange of experiences and interaction. Renova is responsible for the maintenance of the site and providing the basic tools for planting. The families bring the seedlings and cattle manure to fertilize the soil and also take care of the space.
