Agreement between the Renova Foundation and BrazilFoundation to generate socioeconomic alternatives along the Doce river basin

BrazilFoundation, a pioneering philanthropic organization that has been operating for 18 years as a bridge between financial donors and organizations to promote equality, social justice and more opportunities, will act as a partner in important initiatives for the economic repair of communities in the Doce river basin.

The project will seek NGOs that are engaged in transforming the social reality in Brazil that act on different fronts of entrepreneurship to generate a healthy ecosystem of socioeconomic development in the region.

The objectives of this agreement will be applied to the municipalities of Sem Peixe, in Minas Gerais, and Baixo Guandu, Espirito Santo. The agreement is for two years and will work with three main objectives:

• mapping;
• project selection;
• training.

The first phase, the mapping and assessment of the socioeconomic context, will be done through dialogues with social organizations and small local businesses. The intention is to identify the challenges, expectations and needs of each region.

After that, it is time to identify and select the projects. First, 15 projects are to receive investments for 12 months – but that number may grow. In the first year, the total investment is R$ 620 thousand. Where as for the second year, R$ 580 thousand will be made available.

Finally, the moment will come to train leaders and teams of organizations to develop fundamental skills such as financial management, communication, marketing, pricing and market access. This action will be supported by Fa.Vela, an accelerator specialized in entrepreneurial training for populations in socioeconomic vulnerable situations, and is expected to happen in two cycles, one each year.
