This Friday (22/12), the mayor of Mariana, Duarte Júnior, approved the bill (PL) authorizing the transformation of the Lavoura site – where the new town of Bento Rodrigues will be built – in a zone for urban expansion. The document shall be published in the Official Municipal Newspaper on Tuesday the 26th. The approval of the clean bill (PLC) 108/2017, last Thursday unanimously approved by the Municipal Council, was fundamental to the process for the resettlement of the families. Now, according to the bill, the area will turn from a rural zone into an urban zone. The adjustment was a legal prerequisite for land use and occupation, and the thereafter division of land into lots.
The Lavoura site was selected by the community of Bento Rodrigues in May 2016. The urban development project, created by the Renova Foundation to meet the needs raised by 225 families and preserve neighborly relations, was approved in January 2017. However, some adjustments were needed and thus included in the two new proposals which were presented last month to the community.
The adjustments were clarified in workshops, through scale models designed to better understand the changes. The community’s input received during the activities will be considered for the new design, which is in progress and will be voted upon in a meeting to be scheduled.
