Expo will take place between December 3rd and 8th at Expominas in Belo Horizonte (MG)
Artisans from seven communities that were hit by the Fundao dam collapse in Mariana (MG) in 2015 will have the opportunity to showcase their products at the 30th National Crafts Fair, which will take place from December 3rd to 8th at Expominas in Belo Horizonte.
A total of 26 representatives of 12 craft groups from Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo will display and sell their products at the event, including: embroidery, crochet, paintings, decoration and artisan food.
The groups will present their work at a collective booth, which will also show the entire trajectory of the repair process and the resumption of activities in the communities through training, investments, brand and product development, and the opening up of new markets, among others actions supported by the Renova Foundation’s Economy and Innovation program.
For Renova Foundation’s expert of the Socioeconomic Programs, Roberto Ruggeri, the experience is an opportunity to promote these states and their cultural expressions to visitors from Brazil and the rest of the world. “In addition to showcasing and selling the products, the idea is to bring the groups closer together. That way they can exchange knowledge about needs, demands and market opportunities. At the event they meet other exhibitors, form partnerships and evolve professionally,” he says.
Andreia Luiza Tolentins Vasconcelos of Mariana’s “Casa das Artes” group is showcasing her products and stresses the importance of participating in the 30th National Fair: “We will show Richelieu and other kinds of embroidery and crochet flowers. Moreover, when showing our handicrafts we also promote the name of our town, so the rest of Minas Gerais and other states will know where to find us. This way, we hope to make contact with retailers to resell our products, which is important for our development and growth,” she explains.
The Arte Group (Association of Artisans and Related Professions from Regencia and Region) will also be present at the event. For artisan Claldenisia Correia this will be an opportunity to learn. “Going to the fair will give us more knowledge about the market, there we can see the latest trends. Hopefully our participation will make us grow and boost our sales!” She says.
30th National Crafts Fair
The National Crafts Fair is the largest event of its kind in all of Latin America and in 2019 it will celebrate its 30th anniversary in Belo Horizonte. In addition to directly benefiting thousands of people, the fair showcases the incredible diversity of Brazilian crafts and has as its premise the appreciation of the local artistic scene.
Workshops, courses and demonstrations, including those using materials that were thrown away at the 2018 National Fair, will also be part of the event this year. Visitors will also be able to enjoy free concerts and cultural performances.
